Not since YACHT on a Yacht have I seen Jona Bechtolt preform, but tomorrow night he acts as the headliner for this weekend’s SuperFest. If last night’s pre-party with Strength and Dat Politics is anything to go off, this show is gonna be nuts. I just had the opportunity to speak with both Jona and new band member Claire Evans at Stumptown, and they were keeping tomorrow night’s show top-secret. Do what you can to make it to this event, they’re just one of many many reasons to be at Rotture this weekend.
Stay tuned for our interview with YACHT after the festivities end.

Nice Nice have affected my life in many ways without knowing it. They introduced me to White Denim records in early 2003, which transformed my entire concept of what music was supposed to be. From this release (‘There Will Be Slogan’s 7“) they also taught me the value of a musical attention span to see beyond the strange and severe. While their album Chrome fit right in with their White Denim peers (although released through Temporary Residence), it was their ability to be versitile and change their sound from release to release which proved invaluble to my reception of music from then on.

How else can I describe Strength to you except for to describe my history with the band. Before I had ever met the band, I asked them to play my good friend Kiran’s birthday party. I neglected to tell them it was her 18th birthday party… and that they’d be playing my parents house while they were out of town. Regardless of all this… they were down, and remain that way today. As the band has watched me grow, so have I them. Although they refuse to release a full length record, it only helps to encourage their fans check them out live. It’s the only way, at this point, to hear their new songs! Plus, Thursday’s show comes jam packed with Portland’s own Breakfast Mountain, and the fucking insane Dat Politics (who’s new album Mad Kit is pretty astounding).
So, with all that said… to help facilitate your hearing Strength’s songs, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show courtesy of Rotture, where it is all going down. All you have to do is write a statement to Strength encouraging them to release their record already!!! Post it in the comments below, and we’ll pass it along to them before the show. Deadline is Wednesday night! Get excited for this Community Disco!
