some songs never die

Some of the recent electro club bangers show no sign of dying out any time soon with new remixes and edits flooding my inbox. And this is the way it should be. Certain melodies are just to classic to ever go away. With each new version you can intrigue a crowd while maintaining familiarity.

Meddle (AC Slater and DJ Skeet Skeet remix featuring GoldieLocks) – Little Boots
Township Funk – Sinden Remix (Barletta Re Edit) – Mujava
Working out is overrated – Don Diablo vs Missy Elliot
&Down (Disco Trash Music edit) - Boys Noize

Short List of the Week

I heard Boody B from Palms out Sound drop this a few months ago at a tiny but banging bar night. I was blown away at the time, one of the best epic, hard anthems. The AC Slater original gets the appropriate treatment by Jack Beats.
Jack Got Jacked- AC Slater (Jack Beats Remix)

Surkin has a tendency to spastically fly off into high notes, crazy synth like a Kissy Sell Out keyboard solo. I love it! Fortunately for those unconvinced, Bobmo adds some needed dance floor stability.
Kid Gloves- Surkin (Bobmo Remix)

Not a new song by any stretch but one more amazing remix to keep this a classic. “Of course I love music. This is sick.”
This is Sick- Solid Groove (Yeah Woho! Remix)

Duke Dumont

Duke Dumont is one of the most anticipated producers and DJ’s in the fidget house/ghetto house scene. As the major electronic albums keep flopping this year (Goldfrapp, Miss Kittin, Underworld) the young up and comers hold all the eyes. But even the hot young talents are still a somewhat questionable force with a only a handful of remixes and solo tracks released. The wait is antagonizing, we want Kissy Sell Out’s full length! We want Duke Dumont’s, Sinden’s, Fake Blood’s actual albums!

For now here are some hot to trot songs:

Hoy!- Duke Dumont Extremely rhythmic & building with a nice sample of an Indian trumpet over African sounding drums.

Feltham (The Borstal Beat) with it’s strangely catchy melody of an english girl talking over over a soccer anthem that turns very bassline.

Run It- EPMD (Duke Dumont Remix) Well done, “normal” hip hop with a bit of a boost from the Duke.

Mystery Jets- Two Doors Down (Duke Dumont Deconstruction) If you need proof that electro artists can be interesting and deeper then a banging beat here is a little bit of emotional build up and some extreme versatility.

Miss Kittin- Pollution of the Mind
This song is very electro trance and I did not expect to say those words this year. It’s kind of refreshing, Kittin is going back to the happy time when Tiga was remixing Nelly, no one read blogs and the closest thing to Ed Banger was International DeeJay Gigolo.

Crystal Castles- Crimewave (Sinden Remix)
Crystal Castles remixed! Enough Said.

Ratatat- Falcon Jab (Copy Remix)
Local home town hero doing a big remix for Ratatat who happen to be playing a free show tomorrow night here in Portland.

A-Trak, Aoki

A-trak is the best DJ in the world. Not because he is Kanye West’s touring go getter, not because he was winning scratch battles in his teens, not because he remixes the hot electro bangers but simply because he made an album called Dirty South Dance. This did what 2-Many Dj’s had done years ago, seamlessly mixing pop into a something elegant enough to be called music, genuine art and no empty mashup. The breakthrough was the meeting of indy and hyphy, New Young Pony Club was now a team player with 36 Mafia. It was like Girl Talk thirty second spazz genuis had mellowed out and found a real adult home.

Now Aoki on the other hand…

A respected rich kid with a record label a clothing line and decent electro sets for faces like Paris Hilton and the really exclusive after parties finally dropped his full length in 2007. A bit outdated, easily likable and a complete rip off of Dirty South Dance with the most hipster title yet know.

 “Oh!” Boys Noize (A-Trak Remix)
We are rockstars feat. spank rock & amanda blank with does it offend you yeah (Aoki)
La musique (Sinden Remix)

The interesting part is that these two gentleman are playing a show three hours north in two days. And they happen to be playing with Sinden, La Riots, Pretty Titty and Sammy Bannanas.
