For a ‘holiday’, and a Sunday, I was pretty pleased with the turnout at Ponytail this weekend. Holocene isn’t a hard place to fill, and this was proof that if there’s reason enough, people will make the effort to come out. Ponytail was much more than enough reason. Molly Seigel was in full form, doing her best zombie impression while shouting incoherent lyrics into the microphone. Prior to their set someone told me they had read Ponytail originally wanted to sound like Lightning Bolt. With this in mind, the similarities were impossible to avoid. While drummer Jeremy Hyman may not have the chops like Brian Chippendale, or the charisma, he comes off as more of a Boredoms like beat instigator which serves to propel the very Lightning Bolt-like guitar work by Ken Seeno.
