Must be the sun in the sky or something, as more free music has been made available to us today. This time it comes in the form of a sort of ‘best ever” compilation/sampler from Kill Rock Stars.
This compilation seemingly spans their entire catalog, both in the range of styles and the span of the label’s history. If you’ve even been to Portland, or ever seen a Wes Anderson movie, if you’ve ever heard of Le Tigre, or Beth Ditto…. you’ll probably find this interesting.

MusicFest North West exists in a realm between two of the biggest city-wide festivals of the year. While Austin’s SXSW kicks the summer off with essentially every artist you could ever want to see playing multiple times, New York’s CMJ offers a similar set of shows across its vast city. MusicFest North West, while similar, has the benefit of falling between those two events, cherry-picking the best of both and presenting them similarly all across Portland. It is undoubtedly Portland’s most exciting festival, and for a number of reasons.

I keep hearing about stuff going on at Mississippi Studios, but have yet to actually attend their events. I don’t mean to send you mixed messages about what to do this week, but You should really head over to the Mississippi Studios calendar page to check out the shows they have going on this week and beyond.
For instance tomorrow they’ve got Grizzly Bear tourmates Here We Go Magic playing a show alongside Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, with Tom Brosseau the following night celebrating his new CD’s release with a concert! I understand you’ve already made plans to attend both Panther @ OMSI and Strength @ Rotture respectively, but if neither of those float your boat I sincerely suggest you check these shows out. Tell us what the space is like, we’ve never been!
