Burning Yellows 7″ Record Release Party!

Coming this Sunday (4/18) at East End there is another amazing set of bands to check out.

It’s hard to imagine how a line-up like this one will actually be scheduled.  Such is the case with most of the shows associated with Zach’s Books, which only speaks to the ridiculous amount of talent he is able to bring together in a given show.  Adding to this uncertainty is the fact that Zach’s own Burning Yellows will call this night their debut 7″ record release show. It’s being released on Hozac records, which is probably enough said as it is. You can listen to the whole thing on their facebook, (plus one newly added non-7″ track), and once you’ve become as obsessed with both sides as I have, you can purchase it all right here.

If that doesn’t provide reason enough to hit up this show, look no further than the other bands on the line-up to find a million more. Writing about Psychedelic Horseshit’s show at Doug Fir/Twilight nearly two years ago, I said:

“Like his hair, their set was a mess with the constant unplugging of cords and fumbling through lyrics. The thing though, is that they sounded amazing the whole time, capturing perfectly the aesthetic that only a band called Psychedelic Horseshit could get away with.”

Past Lives @ East End 3/14/09

Past Lives play Portland more often than even some local bands, and each time I’m right there watching.  If you haven’t noticed, Past Lives are my very favorite band to rise from the ashes of the Blood Brothers and projects past.  Everytime they play, they put on a show which embodies the best elements of their Strange Symmetry EP, and all the influences within it.  One can’t help but draw similarities between lead singer Jordan Billie and the very weathered Mick Jagger (especially when he spells it out for you…). Live, Past lives are louder than their record might have you believe.  It is this restraint on their record which makes Past Lives so interesting, and so much more than just an aside to their abrasive prior triumphs.  They are worth catching if only to see guitarist Devin Welch, who I solumnly swear will go down in history as being one of the greats.    Here’s to hoping they come again next month; and just a suggestion: open for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

More photos after the jump.
