Hot New Lazer Sword Megamix!!

Lazer Sword dropped a hot new mix titled “Blap to the Future” on their myspace page blog yesterday. These boys keep dropping doper and doper stuff. This megamix is no exception, and is kinda blowing my mind.

The mix is best described in their own words:
“YOUR BOYS LL AND LANDO HAVE BEEN MISSING SLEEP ALL WEEK [...]

A GLUT

(Gluttony by Bryan Crockett, 2002. Cultured marble.)
I love it when I spend my work weekend (mostly) away from the internet, and come back to find a damn GLUT of exciting news and new music.  YACHT+DFA=!, a new TV on the Radio song, a new Crystal Castles song, more talk about Girl Talk, a free mixtape [...]

New Feature: “Stop Requesting Me”

…  For intance: I don’t know who these guys are.  But they want me to know.  Really though, I don’t want to know.
I don’t know anyone who really, really likes unsolicited friend requests from bands on Myspace. Usually when we see a new friend request we hope that it is someone we know; maybe someone [...]

Summer Heat

This new heater by Lazer Sword member and former Portlander Low Limit (aka Bryant Rutlidge) has turned around my favorite Crystal Castles song, “Courtship Date,” into something completely unruly, unholy, low tempo, and banging.
On the news front: Portland’s DJ Monkeytek (Various - dubstep, jungle, dnb monthly @ Rotture/ lo dubs records) is headed down to [...]

“Payin’ big bucks to make your /cut/ look like you cut your own /cut/”

(… Hope y’all don’t mind this slight bit of self promotion.)
Guidance Councilor (aka Ian Anderson) is a one-man DIY electro-flamethrower, killer barista, and star of Sasha’s birthday party. Also, I just learned that his song “Pullover” is featured on PDX Pop Now!’s 2008 compilation.  Awhile back I asked him to lend me vocal tracks from [...]

Hold Steady new album stream!!

I am beaming with excitement right now! The yet unreleased album from The Hold Steady is streaming in its entirety on their myspace page. The physical format real deal comes out on July 15th. The band is going to be at the Crystal Ballroom on July 27th. Things [...]

Supermess

Here’s gem that I hope won’t stay buried for long. One of the tracks reviewed in sometimes-Portland resident Philip Sherburne’s Pitchfork column, “This Month In: Techno,” is Gotye’s “Heart’s a Mess” remixed by Supermayer (Kompakt Records’ Michael Mayer and Superpitcher.) It starts off with an infectious stomp of shuffle-chugging kick drum and truncated [...]

Do it Now!

If you haven’t heard it yet: listen to the Juan Maclean’s newest single “Happy House.” It is a disco house MONSTER and has been getting quite a bit of prime speaker time lately. It was the first song dropped by DJ JDH after Simian Mobile Disco’s well-lit and well received live set at Holocene last [...]
