SuperFest: Nice Nice

nice-nice
Nice Nice have affected my life in many ways without knowing it.  They introduced me to White Denim records in early 2003, which transformed my entire concept of what music was supposed to be.  From this release (‘There Will Be Slogan’s 7“) they also taught me the value of a musical attention span to see beyond the strange and severe.   While their album Chrome fit right in with their White Denim peers (although released through Temporary Residence), it was their ability to be versitile and change their sound from release to release which proved invaluble to my reception of music from then on.

This same record also almost got me kicked out of my house.  The very first time I lived away from home, I left this record on… for days.  Thing is, it never ends if you let it go on forever.  Thanks to some tricky vinyl work, the needle reverses and repeats the final moments of the record over and over again, presumably until it breaks.  My roommates didn’t like this, and it made for a pretty horrible first impression.

Regardless, my relationship with Nice Nice’s music is still a love-love.  Their hiatus(?) over the past few years has left me to fend for myself in this world of much music.  Having them on the bill for Sunday’s line-up at SuperFest provides comfort, as well as excitement.  At this point, their music may not seem suprising, or particularly exciting,  but I guarantee I wont be the only ‘old timer’ out there breaking it down.

Check some of Nice Nice’s tunes out below, and do not miss them this Sunday at Rotture’s SuperFest:
Nice Nice – Cold Sweat Part XVI
Nice Nice – Bees Make Honey
Nice Nice – Chrome Cabal
Nice Nice – Nein
