In 1997, at the age of 14, Andrew Mataus was introduced to house music and at the ripe age of 17 Andrew played his first party. His music soon took him to Calgary, Canada for the his first out of state and country experience. Andrew had a dream of flying as far as he could for a gig. Dreams became reality when offered the opportunity to play for Russia’s number one club Propaganda, Moscow and becoming the youngest DJ to do so, at age 19. In 1998, Andrew joined with his brother Maté to start a production company, Gaia Tribe. Gaia Tribe is now internationally known as Oregon’s link to the underground house culture. In the first year it drew 1,300 people, the second year it drew 1,800 people. Earning it the right of best party in the NW in 2001. Currently working on a new project, Andrew has teamed up with Amfibious Records and UnitingSouls to help guide the launch of Night Owl Recordings. From Costa Rica to Canada, Portugal to Russia, Andrew Mataus has, in a short time, impacted the globe with the intention of peace and culture. Read the rest of this entry »
Oh Snap, looks like our dj crew is getting more and more love from the local media, now with the Willammete Week interviewing Doctor Adam. Read that shit, he’s a sharp cookie.
and the following track doesn’t represent Doctor Adam’s musical style, but it’s more of a testament to his dj results.
Tear Da Club Up (Solly Remix) – DJ Class mediafire
Currently, the Defense Department says it is spending about $4.5 billion a month on the conflict in Iraq, or about $100,000 per minute.

Get it while you can. For preventative legal reasons, I’m not hosting it here. honestly, it’s not my favorite, I think that Diplo should stick to baile funk/bmore remixes. but I know that you kiddies at are probably going to eat this up. Credit to ridiculousbullshit.com for bringing this to my attention.
I first took notice of TADT when one of our DJ’s dropped it at our Tuesday night residency at the Crown Room. It was the song featuring Whiskey Pete, Money VIP- the one that screams “Money, Bitches, Cars, Clothes and Weed!”. I was hooked from the first listen. Behind the bonkers Party Monster style anthem there was also a heavy chugging bass line and enough digital distortion to satisfy T-Pain. More then anything it was catchy as hell.
In American Stopper we find the evolution of one the most obnoxiously catchy vocal melodies of all time. Add to that layers of vocals and bass with a few scattered gun shots. Possibly my favorite song to DJ at this exact moment.
Every morning, I wake up to the local community radio station KBOO, which is airing the political news show Democracy Now. Most days, it’s filled with stories like how there has been 1900 deaths in Gaza in the past 30 days, stories and news that encourage me to get up and do inspiring work in the world because without a concerted effort by mindful people like myself, injustice and oppression may prevail.
Today was a different day. Today I woke up to the inauguration speech of Barack Obama, a man in which so many Americans and people worldwide have placed so much hope that we may turn back the tide of oppression, ignorance, violence, and ecological destruction that the previous administration has ushered in. I woke up smiling. I woke up believing that this is actually a possibility. I truly believe that Barack Obama is a good man with great intentions. How well he is able to implement these policy changes and usher in a new ideological paradigm, that we will have to see. He’ll be fighting against the mammoth force of the federal government bureaucracy’s resistance to change and corporate interests undermining his efforts along the way.
Amy Goodman, the main journalist for Democracy Now, related the story of Obama at a small fundraising gathering in which the issue of the recent Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip was brought up. Not going to much into it, in essence, his response was “I agree with you, but you will have to make me.” Which to me means, that this administration will actually listen to the needs and opinions of the citizens, and it needs us to do this to keep them on track.
My mother and sister were lucky enough to get tickets to the inauguration. They said how it was amazing to be among a million people with hope in their hearts and smiles on their faces. My mom said how, in order to get a better look at the tiny figures on the stage, there was a crowd who broke down several fences in order to get closer. The cops, rather than responding in riot police fashion, allowed this to happen when it was clear that this was a nonviolent group.
So with that, I present to you the The Historical Barack Obama Inaugaration Mixtape, mixed by Pcutta. Credit goes to mp3hustle.com for bringing this to my attention. Track listings after the jump.
“This week on the Real World the characters struggled with issues of sexuality as the transexual roomate came out to some of the roomates but not to all. The straightest roomate was tricked into kissing a drag queen on the lips and proceeded to wash his mouth out with soap. Everyone dwelled on how far he had came in acceptance. The blond fo-hawked roomate recounted stories of serving in Iraq and sang folk songs on guitar. Once again everyone gushed about how much they respected him and how cool going to Iraq must have been. With time it becomes more and more clear why I was not picked as a contestant.”

I’ve been rocking this on my mp3 player for about 9 months. Now that I’ve found a tracklisting, I’m ready to recommend it with 5 stars. Moonbootica is one of my favorite deep electro house groups. Their release of Moonlight Welfare was one of my favorite albums of 2008, which really stood out with the track Joan Landor.

Received this in my inbox a couple days ago from some djs previously unknown to me, Scott Harris & Simon TooGood. Checking it out, I almost deleted it immediately, it smacks of early 2000 smooth jazzy house. Then around the 2 min mark, it hits us with some wonky goodness. The backing beat is a little boring, but I’m posting it since I love genre blends previously unheard. Anyone know where the trumpet sample comes from?
As y’all may know, you diligent FBM readers, my role here in the site is not to hype the latest cutting edge music. Mostly, I’m the admin. When I post something, it’s normally because it really tickles my fancy.
Since I love all things electrocrunkified, I’m a big fan of the blog whitefolksgetcrunk.com. I was listening to DJ Real Juicy’s latest mix, Electro Thuggin’. It’s not mixed amazingly, but it sure introduced me to some rap remixes I haven’t come across before. Like this awesome mashup by, Brooklyn’s DJ Morsy of the DJ collective NANA CHILL. I had to hit him up for it since it doesn’t come easily through your normal internet search. He just asks that I “should help support and purchase my latest CD at http://www. turntablelab. com/cds/0/0/60822. html”
He takes a really enjoyable instrument track by London’s electronica/funk/punk band Spektrum, and adds some acappella’s by Dj Unk, which is a vast improvement on the otherwise boring beats the original has. If you like the instrumental, but would prefer yourself some Elton John, check out the mash up by Dunproofin, which I used a year ago in my 80s remix mix tape “Retrofitted”.
We are sixth months old. Come celebrate with us!
With DJ’s: Deafchild, Lady Adie, Gray and Countzero.

Some of you may have heard me drop the Chubby Finger track “Big John” in more then a few house sets, usually after the epic of build of “I Retro” by DJ Dero. With that little exposure to the one track I was very pleased to find a new Chubby jam in my inbox this morning. Keeping it fresh for 2009 with the disco turning a bit bassline/electro, this seems to be the current trend. Be sure to check their blog and cop the Swaggalicious mixtape. No I am not kidding.
Every Monday local celebrity and all around awesome-dude, Leigh posts his favorite music videos as a bulletin on myspace. This week he posted his favorite videos of 08′ and I am posting my picks of his picks. In his words:
“Being the first Monday of 2009 I felt it fitting to re-cap with some of my favorite videos from 2008. Peep game if you missed any of these this year…”
FBM is a blog written about all kinds of music. We often focus on small acts and DJs, promoting and loving what we consider to be the very best in Indy, Dubstep, House and far beyond. We are a collective of (currently) unpaid kids based out of Portland Oregon. We urge you to support this music and hence we will provide the the most accurate show listings and heads up on things to do in Portland.
This is all those things but more then anything else this is about community, about having as many authors contributing as much as possible and promoting all of our friends. I believe in politics as still being important and I believe in this generation still being relevant. Our culture is all we have.
Almost all of this music is sent to us by the creator and is entirely legal to download, if something slips through the cracks and you are the owner of a soundfile you wish removed, simply email us. Thank you.
