Winter here in Portland has been incredibly snowy and cold the past few weeks, much like the country of Bulgaria, where Ladytron’s vocalist Mira Aroyo is from. Lucky for me, I get the honor of opening for them at the epic 2410 New Year’s party tonight. I felt that Ladytron’s music has been quite appropriate for the winter, dark yet upbeat.
I’m not a big fan of their latest single “Runaway” from their latest album Velocifero, which they produced themselves. However, some of the remixes are downright awesome. So I’ve decided to post every single remix I could find and let you decide that for yourself. They appear in the order of which I think are the best to my least favorite. The music video is awesome though.
I have been working on this one for a while and after a couple false starts (and the introduction of my own edits) I finally got it down on paper, so to speak.
An avid reader may have noticed the new Fake Blood remix of Hot Chip is listed in the tracklisting for the NYE Jack Beats mix. For some this is not terribly exciting, one more remix of dependable indy pop by dependable blog house. For others this is the high point of the week as there are certain names you search for over and over again, waiting for a new remix to come out. Some of the hottest artists in the world have only released five mp3’s but get blogged about constantly and feverishly. Hot Chip- Touch Too Much (Fake Blood Remix)
Fake Blood is one of these names. And like most of the prolific producers and DJ’s there are a lot of other names involved. Theo Keating in the man behind the music but you may remember him from his slight commercial success as one half of The Wiseguys an eclectic British hiphop duo that released two songs as commercials for Mitsubishi and Budweiser. Quickly forgotten but worth listening to, especially for any Fatboy Slim/Big Beat fans still left. The Wiseguys- Start the Commotion The Wiseguys- Ohh La La
Danny Boyle (famed from Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Sunshine) has released another glossy emotionally mind boggling epic. This time we have India in all its awe inspiring size and bulk, the screen virtually bursting with human beings. Despite the extremely obvious attempts at wrenching your heart the movie is overall impressive on many levels and unless you seem to missing some crucial parts lately you as well will be move by the end….
Here is the new M.I.A. jam. Sadly I found most of the soundtrack to be a bit lacking once I was removed from the theater though it did make me think about Baile Fidget all night.
Tommy Sparks- I’m a Rope (Yuksek Remix)
Hard edged indy electro. Need I say more? This is why people came up with stupid made up terms like “bangers” and “new rave”.
When Saints Go Machine- Pretty Rich (Hijack Remix) Hijack is simply amazing, one of the most progressive artists putting out fidget. This will stay in your head with the buzz saw of a bassline and the bouncy nitrous oxide of a melody.
The last few days have been hectic. Lots of networking (you can also call it partying) and an incredible array of bass lines either through my headphones or on the dance floor. It seems in every possible aspect the dance community here is Portland is very alive. All anyone seemed to be talking about was what they were listening to and where they were going next.
Got to play with the very talented and nice Ravi at Dunes. I think the highlight was Koolaid dancing on the bar and watching Ravi mix from Pulp’s “Common People” to “Roll Out” by Ludacris. Read the rest of this entry »
In our ever growing community of DJ’s and friends we are proud to announce the addition of Lady Adie and Lions Den to the FBM collective.
You may have caught Adie rocking out CHEDDA last night with Matt and Kellan. She was also recently featured in the Willamete Week’s “Hang the DJ” interview. With current residencies at Dante’s, Pala, Hecklewood and upcoming FBM events expect to hear much more from Adie in the near future.
Lions Den is the newly minted title for the DJ formally known simply as Blair. A newcomer to the Portland club scene he has already established a residency at Vault and can be found spinning with me at the next ElectriCity at Pine Street Bistro on Friday.

This video is pretty bad. Bad in an amazing, glossy hyper kinetic and utterly insane way. The song is pretty amazing. I would have taken this in an entirely different direction as I always saw this song as emotional, pretty yet depressing. For more guilty pleasure electro-sex-ploitation click the following.
Here is my first “official” mix. As in- I am really proud of this mix, i’m planning on burning it onto CD’s and generally do everything in my power to make all my friends listen to it. Like Gray’s exceptional “Fidgetal Love” mix, I have put over a week into re-editing and re-recording. Here is the final version; enjoy!
Each track can be downloaded individually as well as the mixed version.
It starts with a nice hard synth line that progresses with the addition of bleepy handclaps and a growing squelch of noise. A well produced electro banger from the very start, this track only really takes stride with the stuttery “wow” vocal sample made famous by the Crookers. By the time this song is over, the dance floor will have taken notice.
Coldblank is the brand new project of Mr. Gasper and Big Nasty. Gasper you may remember from a series of top notch remixes and edits he has released as well as his work with the blog Hot Biscuits.
Little Boots has a blog and a forum, a million myspace pictures, free downloads and wallpapers in two different sizes (“One is bound to fit your screen.”) Ahhhh how adorable.
More remixes keep surfacing to keep us transfixed.
FBM is a blog written about all kinds of music. We often focus on small acts and DJs, promoting and loving what we consider to be the very best in Indy, Dubstep, House and far beyond. We are a collective of (currently) unpaid kids based out of Portland Oregon. We urge you to support this music and hence we will provide the the most accurate show listings and heads up on things to do in Portland.
This is all those things but more then anything else this is about community, about having as many authors contributing as much as possible and promoting all of our friends. I believe in politics as still being important and I believe in this generation still being relevant. Our culture is all we have.
Almost all of this music is sent to us by the creator and is entirely legal to download, if something slips through the cracks and you are the owner of a soundfile you wish removed, simply email us. Thank you.
