CNN is veering farther and farther to the right as they realize oh-shit-the-black-guy-might-actually-win and the Daily Show and Colbert respond accordingly, making fun of CNN instead of FOX.
In China Bush decides to show up to cheer on the Americans which is odd when you consider that the leaders of many of the other more civilized countries have chosen not to attend the Olympics after human rights organizations asked for a boycott. Also American presidents have never attended Olympic games away from home, making Bush quite the rebel.
This would lead one to believe that we really want to trade with China/are a little afraid of China and it’s amazing booming economy. Amid the smog (many of the factories in Northern China were closed down to minimize this prior to the games) Tibetan rights groups protest and Tiananmen Square is shut down to halt any incidents of the past.

The media will not stop talking about gas prices which is also odd since gas prices have been rising steadily for years and they are actually quite cheap in the US where they have been kept artificially low for quite some time. (Try filling your tank in Europe.) This might lead one to wonder why the authorities decided to raise prices right now… To bolster confidence in a failing war or to convince us to get behind a new one?

Barak Obama takes a family vacation and McCain gets a day older. No one talks about global warming or population growth though there is quite some debate about off shore drilling. The democrats are opposed to rusty little insects popping up all over the coast of California and the Republicans just want to decrease gas prices by a quarter…in ten years when the plants are up and running. Russia bombs the shit out of Georgia when it tries to break away and the world watches the synchronized dive team on the telly.
