New Feature: “Stop Requesting Me”

…  For intance: I don’t know who these guys are.  But they want me to know.  Really though, I don’t want to know.

I don’t know anyone who really, really likes unsolicited friend requests from bands on Myspace. Usually when we see a new friend request we hope that it is someone we know; maybe someone sexy from the neighborhood or a long lost friend.  It’s a bit of a bummer when it’s some band from a city we’ve never been to, who plays music in a style that we are not really interested in. Even with the ‘captcha’ security setting in effect, I only get requests from about one out of ten bands who are remotely decent.

I feel like the way FBM’s writers currently ‘Fuck’ the ‘Bad Music’ out there, thusfar has been to tell readers about really good new music that we love and are passionate about. We wouldn’t have named the site what it is if there wasn’t a glut of bad music out there and being that this website could really possibly be about, ahem, ‘fucking bad music,’ or something like that, I hope to entertain myself and FBM readers both, at the expense of bands who disappoint me and waste my time.  And I’d want to apologize in advance for being so negative and possibly ripping on your friends’ band, or some band you really like.  I’ve posted a warning/disclaimer on my ’space’ to all bands who ‘request’ me, just so they know what they are subject to.

For a new recurring feature on FuckBadMusic,  I will actually listen to those bands who pop up in my friend requests, read their profile, listen to their songs, then write what I think. Instead of being reviews of albums, live shows, or songs, I guess this will be a series of Myspace profile reviews.

It should also be said, that being normally dissapointed by any band requests in the first place, I am not likely to be completely objective when it comes to listening to these bands for the first time.

Since I am not going to review any bands who have requested me before I posted the disclaimer, it should only be a matter of a couple days before I get to write something.

This should be fun.
