Matmos @ Aladdin Theater

It’s too bad you are going to be at Kode9 tonight (not) because Matmos happens to be playing at the Aladdin Theater at the same time. Yesterday I had the good fortune of catching them do an improv set at KPSU in front of no more than 5 other people.

Improv albums almost never work, simply because it’s impossible to see what is going on when. Some of the fun lies in deciphering each instrument, each sound, but this kind of excercize often falls short of entertaining. Live however, improv can be an excellent display of a person’s (or in this case group of persons’) talent.

Matmos’ albums are always intriguing, and as I’ve pointed out about one of Matmos’ (Drew Daniel’s) side projects, they are home to some of my favorite sample based songs. If Dubstep isn’t your thing, I seriously suggest going to Matmos tonight. If last night’s set was any indication… it’s gonna rock. Here’s a little video I made, although I doubt I was supposed to.
