There is so much accessible technology in the world, so many kids into the same things, in every major city. Apart but the same, we are bored but obsessed. Armed with laptops and pirated versions of traktor or serato for every boy and girl…
One would assume this environment would foster dozens of beautiful but fun mixes? Bedroom DJ’s armed with the very best A Cappella tracks available to man…
If only this were the case. Every mix I hear these days seems to be by a jaded rockstar, forced and business like, overly melodic or overly hyphy. People love the party DJ’s, foster love affairs with Diplo and Girl Talk because people want fun, they want those cheesy mash ups and Daft Punk builds, the masses want to hear AC DC remixes. And sometimes I do as well.
DJ Ryley could very well be the next “Party DJ”, his newest mix being completely great, unpretentious vocal support for our day. (And no I don’t even know him, he just keeps sending me emails out of the blue.)
