Occasionally you receive a gift so good you are actually startled.
There is so much accessible technology in the world, so many kids into the same things, in every major city. Apart but the same, we are bored but obsessed. Armed with laptops and pirated versions of traktor or serato for every boy and girl…

One would assume this environment would foster dozens of beautiful but fun mixes? Bedroom DJ’s armed with the very best A Cappella tracks available to man…

Sometimes it takes collaboration between two fairly unrelated artists to create the music we are looking for. Not a terribly new concept in a world where the information flows freely and any given scene is always just shy of being completely over saturated.
Here we have the always dependable Yuksek remixing U-God which is not surprising with the success of his Ghostface Remix (still to this day the most downloaded song I have ever posted.) What is interesting is the spazzzed and heavily chopped vocal samples which keeps pace with the ghetto house beats. By simplifying much of the lyrics down to a simple refrain Yuksek can meld the the song around a rising beat and occasionally drop back to the actual rap song. Bounce baby!

… For intance: I don’t know who these guys are. But they want me to know. Really though, I don’t want to know.
I don’t know anyone who really, really likes unsolicited friend requests from bands on Myspace. Usually when we see a new friend request we hope that it is someone we know; maybe someone sexy from the neighborhood or a long lost friend. It’s a bit of a bummer when it’s some band from a city we’ve never been to, who plays music in a style that we are not really interested in. Even with the ‘captcha’ security setting in effect, I only get requests from about one out of ten bands who are remotely decent.

Sébastien Tellier made this new mix for American Apparel. And it happens to be spreading around the world through viral blog marketing of the most beautiful sort. Sort of like the colors of American Apparel spreading through the Girl Talk youth generation.

This new heater by Lazer Sword member and former Portlander Low Limit (aka Bryant Rutlidge) has turned around my favorite Crystal Castles song, “Courtship Date,” into something completely unruly, unholy, low tempo, and banging.
On the news front: Portland’s DJ Monkeytek (Various – dubstep, jungle, dnb monthly @ Rotture/ lo dubs records) is headed down to SF tomorrow to play a night with Lazer Sword. I don’t know how these guys linked up but if my dreams come true, we will all be dancing to Lazer Sword, live at Various very soon. (HINT HINT Craig and Ryan…)

For some time I have felt that DJ Kue is the best up and coming House/Ghetto/Fidget artist. And since I tend to share my feelings a little openly, quite a few people have started to ask about him.

Here are two more tracks to check out, the first two remixes I ever found of his and two tracks that show off the spazz-out, hard-electro, rock-house that is revitalizing dance music.
Beastie Boys- Sabatage (DJ Kue OMG remix)
Rage Against the Machine- Bulls on Parade (DJ Kue remix)

In the top cadre of dance acts such as, Daft Punk, Justice, M.I.A., A-Track, Cromeo and now Santogold, Diplo has always been a major player as production, opener and touring DJ. Now he throws the same magic he used with M.I.A.’s Piracy Funds Terrorism at Santogold, creating Top Ranking, another mix featuring exclusive remixes and unreleased singles. While I hate to echo the other successful blogs, this is one occasion where I must say, GO DOWNLOAD IT.

I’m so excited about this show, wish I didn’t have to work the next morning, since judging by how many other’s are on the bill, and their 4 hours set, I’m going to suggest you might be watching the sunrise as you get out of this semi-underground venue.
In case you didn’t know,
M.A.N.D.Y. is a Berlin-based electrohouse group consisting of Patrick Bodmer & Philipp Jung. Their first official release was a popular remix of a Galleon song. They were cofounders of Get Physical Records, along with Booka Shade and DJ T. With Booka Shade, they were responsible for the club hit “Body Language,” which was named “Ibiza Track of the Season 2005″ and has been licensed to more than 100 compilations.
Listen to M.A.N.D.Y. Vs Booka Shade – Body Language
and it’s not a M.A.N.D.Y track, but it’s similar enough to what I think they’ll be playing:Booka Shade – Mandarine Girl (Album Version)

On July 14th I chatted with Greg Gillis of Girl Talk about everything from his new album Feed The Animals, to his new project with Dan Deacon and Naeem of Spank Rock. Among other things I discovered that his appreciation for Thurston Moore is pretty equal to his respect for Kelly Clarkson.
“Thurston Moore is on the same exact level as Kelly Clarkson”
See for yourself after the jump.

Anyways, WHT FNG are on tour, and since I’m jealous I don’t get to see them, all I can do is blast their tunes and look at these pictures.

I wish I could make one of those web things describing the way in which all of Seattle’s best bands connect. If you ‘Continue Reading’, please be prepared for your head to explode, not just because what i am going to describe is very confusing, but also because the music contained within this post has been known to do that. This, of course, is all in celebration (Read: Promotion) of the fact that Past Lives is playing Situations on August 2nd. Nathan’s Myspace bulletin said “(ex-Blood Brothers/Shoplifting)” but I didn’t feel like that did Past Lives justice.

Flosstradamus put on a rousing show at Rotture to a packed crowd yesterday, a slightly more diverse crowd then usual for a Portland hipster club (People of color and even old people!) who cheered on every pop-indy transition. Portland is thirsty for excitement of the cheesy fun dancy sort. Pictures coming soon.
Act a fool (Ravestradamus Myspace Mix)

I just had to post this crunk turned club handclap of a monster.”Oh godamn this is my jam, keep me partying to the AM, you don’t understand, make me throw my hands in the Ayer, Ayer, Ayer..”
Hands In The Ayer (Spinstyles Remix)

And the other night I dance like a crazed fool to DJ Dundiggy who I was quite impressed by. He just happens to be DJing tonight at the always top notch RockBox party if you feel like supporting. In any case he threw through a quick sucession of hard vinyl cuts and I even found myself liking “Stress” by Justice. This is a new thing for me as i have always been a stubborn Justice hater in room after room of Justice lovers. This song is my new jam. (And likely your old jam.)
Justice- Stress (Epsilon Remix)

Lately Sébastien Tellier has been the source of a lot of blog love due to the critical (and uncritical) obsession many of us have with Boys Noize who just remixed his song L’amour et la Violence . Tellier is equally fascinating as the talented singer and multi-instrumentalist who sings in three languages and makes beautiful moody music that’s deceptively hard to define. He opened for Air and his newest album was produced by one half of Daft Punk. How is that for credentials?

One astute user of YouTube posted this as a comment on the video:
“i like what maino did with this song, he immediatley established that anyone who dislikes this song is a hater, and then spends the whole song illustrating why haters are wack… some of you may dismis this as trash but its actually freudian”
