Song Of The Day 6/17/08

One thing that I love about instrumental music is that they can’t cop-out by using lyrics for song titles. The Advisory Circle are the kind of band that takes advantage of this by depicting a feeling in their song titles that serves as a guide for how to listen.

The Advisory Circle – Fire, Damp & Air

This song has such a Fantasia feel to it. Individual keystrokes serve as rain, or damp if you will, while the incessant synth holds within it the fury of fire; all the while, a flute (?) offers the weightlessness of air. This song is named so accurately, which seems funny to say for an instrumental, but truly their is seemingly no other name appropriate for what is going on here. I love this track mainly because it’s haunting and serene, but also because it’s of an entirely different tone than the other songs on the album.

I heard of this album after reading countless good reviews for The Focus Group’s – We Are All Pan’s People. I liked that so much that I further explored the label, Ghost Box, and in doing so found The Advisory Circle.

Check out Ghost box for MP3’s of all of their artists!
